[I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE MARGINS! SORRY!]
what good have you done throughout your entire life?
If you were to earn alot, will you spend all in luxury materials?
what will you do when you see someone in need, someone who could not even afford basic necessities?
what will you do when you see a person digging for dumps from rubbish bins?
WHAT WILL YOU EVEN DO WHEN YOU SEE A 95 YEAR OLD LADY GOING FROM ONE RUBBISH BIN TO ANOTHER, DIGGING FOR DUMPS AND LEFTOVER FOOD AND BRINGING IT BACK HOME TO HER 96 YEAR OLD DISABLED HUSBAND?
WHAT WE DID?
our story go like this...................
Me, Spencie and Huiwei were supposed to meet up and head off to Pitt Street Mall to get our tennis gear. On the way, we saw this frail old chinese lady,
digging from a rubbish bin. we stopped. by just looking at her makes my heart go sour. a young woman approached her, she gave her a loaf of bread. the old
lady was so thankful that she slowly bowed as a sign of appreciation. three of us took out a few notes from our wallet and walked up to her. we passed the
money to her, it was obvious that she was happy.
after passing her some money, we started a conversation which sounds something like this.
ME: popo, lei sek mm sek kong kong dong wah? [popo, do you know how to speak cantonese?]
POPO: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.... (didn't understand what she was saying)
SP: lei hai pin dou yan ah? [where are you from?]
POPO: xxxxxxxxxxx. [i am from 新会 (XingHui) lo.]
HW: lei zhu hang pin tou ah? ngo dei dai lei fan ok kei. [where do u live? we can send you home.]
POPO: xxxxxxxxxxxxx....she mumbled something like this [direct translation: my house is very far from here, i walk awhile and rest awhile throughout the whole journey till i get home]
HW: lei yao mou zai lui ah? [do you have any children?]
POPO: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. [yes i do, but all of them are not here. i'm staying with my husband who is at home. he can't walk.]
SP: gam lei din lei gah? [ then how did you end up being here?]
POPO: xxxxxxxxxx...[my eldest son brought me and my husband here and left us by ourselves.]
ME: ................... [tears streaming down my face]
POPO: xxxxxxxxxxx.. [aiya, little girl please do not cry] (she said this while wiping her own tears)
SP: popo lei hang dou dang, ngo dei mai yeh bei lei. [popo can you please wait here, we'll buy some necessities for you and we will come back]
POPO: xxxxxxxx... [ no no, money is enough, i have a loaf of bread which could last me for a week.]
ME: .................... [f*ck, i just can't control my tears. i was sobbing like nobody's business. people looked at me. it was embarrassing. but who cares! i cry because i'm not cold-hearted! i care for unfortunate people!]
POPO: xxxxxxxx... [little girl, stop crying already. three of you are good people. god will bless all of you.] (and she kept bowing to us as a sign of appreciation.)
three of us had an idea in mind. we said goodbye and she started walking towards another rubbish bin.
what we did?
we followed her from behind. we bought some necessities on the way, like biscuits, milk, water and even a knitted sweater.
we followed her for almost an hour. she was walking from bins to bins searching for food that she could bring home. i cried again when i saw her putting food she found from the rubbish bin into her mouth. some teenagers walked pass, they laughed at her, they made fun of her. some kind hearted people gave her money, some tried talking to her.
we followed her behind till we reached this building. it was a pretty cool apartment from the outside. it was too cool that it made us suspected that all this was a trap. we thought that she was trying to cheat people of their money. wait till you see the inside!
we couldn't get into the building as it was locked.
we were fortunate to be approached by one of the tenant of the apartment and we told her we were looking for this old lady. she was kind enough to allow us
to follow her into the building. we saw where the lift stopped and headed to that floor. tada! she opened the door!
she was sooooo surprised to see us. she invited us in. we met her husband. he was a frail old man who looked even weaker with his bad cough. her house was like a dumpsite, from clothes to old bottles to rotten fruits. we handed her what we bought. she was ecstatic!
she showed us some pictures. pictures of the both of them and their family. pictures of their happy memories.
she wants to go home. she wants to go back to where she belong. she wants to go back to 新会. we promised to visit them every week. she kept bowing to us again!
we left with a heavy heart. =(
where is their son?
why did he left them all by themselves?
what happened to their happy family moments?
how can their children be so cruel to leave them all alone?
what reasons do they have to leave them just like that?
the world is so unfair.
why are we divided into the rich and the poor?
why can't all of us be equal?
the poor and unfortunate needs us.
how much can we help?
how many people can we afford to take care of?
treat your parents well for they are the ones who have supported us and brought us into this world.
where will you be if its without them?
anyway...........
three happy girls did what thet could do for this unfair world.
hopefully there will be more people who are willing to do good deeds.

ME.

SPENCIE.

HUI WEI.

GONG GONG.
see the brown knitted sweater on popo? yeah! she loved it!
Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.
think about it darlings!
